Terms of use

These terms govern your use of the SYNK Radio API at api.synkradio.co.uk and this documentation site at docs.synkradio.co.uk. By calling the API or using the docs you agree to them. If you do not, do not use the service.

The acceptable use policy and privacy policy sit alongside these terms and form part of your agreement with us.

The service

The SYNK Radio API is a free, hobbyist project run by SYNK Radio. It is offered as-is. There are no plans, tiers, contracts or paid support. Nothing on this site should be read as a commercial offer.

Eligibility

You may use the service if you are 13 or over and can enter into a binding agreement in your jurisdiction. If you are using the service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have the authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

Data and content

We do not own the music, the lyrics, the artwork, the credits, the biographies or the artist images. Those rights sit with the artists, labels, publishers and other rights holders. We surface the data under the licences SYNK Radio holds, and your use of it must stay inside your own rights and any applicable law.

If you are a rights holder and something needs to come down, email [email protected] with a valid notice and the offending content will be removed promptly.

AI features

Endpoints under /ai/ generate their answers with a language model. The output is best-effort, can be wrong, biased or out of date, and is offered as a hint. You are responsible for anything you do on the back of an AI response, including any decision to broadcast a track. See the acceptable use policy for the full rules and the privacy policy for what gets sent to the model.

Stability and changes

This is an experimental API. We may change the response shape, rename fields, pull endpoints, or shut the service down without notice. Things will break. Do not build anything on top of it that cannot survive that.

Material changes to public behaviour are listed on the changelog.

Termination

We can block, suspend or remove access for any IP, User-Agent or person at any time, for any reason or for no reason. Usually this is because of a rule breach, but we are not obliged to give a reason or a warning. The sections that should survive termination (warranty, liability, indemnity, jurisdiction) will continue to apply after your access ends.

No warranty

The API and the docs are provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranties of any kind. We do not promise that the service will work, that any response will be accurate, current or complete, that it will be free of bugs, that it will be available at any given time, or that it will still be here tomorrow. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded under English law (such as death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud).

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary loss or damage, including lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost goodwill, business interruption, broadcast fines, licensing costs, or any other loss of any kind, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or any other theory, arising from or connected to your use of, or inability to use, the API, the docs or any AI response.

The service is provided to you free of charge, and our total aggregate liability to you for all claims taken together is capped at the total amount you have paid us to use the API, which is zero pounds (£0). If you are unhappy with the service, your sole remedy is to stop using it.

AI output is not a broadcast clearance

/ai/is-radio-safe and the other /ai/ endpoints are triage tools. Do not use them on their own to clear a track. The rights holder's explicit flag and your own editorial judgement always take priority.

Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold us (SYNK Radio and anyone working with us) harmless from any claim, demand, loss, liability, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) brought by any third party arising from or connected to: your use of the API or the docs; your breach of these terms or the acceptable use policy; your breach of any law; your breach of any third party right (including any intellectual property, privacy or broadcasting right); or any content, product or service you build on top of the API.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms at any time. The current version on this page is the one that applies. If you keep using the API after a change, that counts as acceptance of the new version. Material changes are noted on the changelog.

Severability and waiver

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court, that part is cut down to the minimum needed to be enforceable, or removed if it cannot be saved. The rest keeps applying. If we do not act on a breach right away, that does not mean we have waived the right to act on it later.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms and any dispute or claim arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that we may bring proceedings in any jurisdiction where you are based to protect our rights or enforce a block.
